Palma Low Cost Housing, 2020

With Feina & David Leech Architects

The competition proposal for 39 social housing apartments on the east side of Palma de Mallorca is a hybrid structure of loadbearing Mares sandstone and engineered timber construction. The site lies on a north south axis with disused factories to the east that are planned to form part of a new educational and cultural centre. The proposal has a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with sandstone vaulted rooms with small balconies to the east. The apartments are accessed via decks with communal terrace areas accessed by a large sweeping spiral stair at the street entrance to the North. On the south-east corner is a small community room for the residents. Parking is underneath. The competition was a collaboration with Palma based architects Feina and London/Dublin Architect David Leech.
